Changes in insulin values were positively associated with changes in systolic BP at 6 and 3 months. The changes in glucose at 6 and 3 months were not correlated. This indicates that fasting insulin levels do not determine the metabolic effect of exercise or the ability of hormone to counteract it. The study had a small number of participants and several potential weaknesses need to be highlighted. The trial had a number of limitations including: noncompliance to study treatment and a lack of any baseline information for many participants. In order to assess the effect of testosterone supplementation, the participant's hormone level should have been recorded and, if so, the sample size at baseline should also have been considered.
