How to Protect Your Park Model From Spring Storm Damage

Spring is an exciting time for park model owners. Warmer weather means the camping season is beginning again, but spring can also bring strong winds, heavy rain, and sudden storms.

Taking a few simple precautions early in the season can help protect your park model and prevent costly repairs later.

Here are a few steps we recommend as part of your spring preparation.

1. Inspect the Roof and Seals

Your roof is the first line of defense against the elements.

After winter, it’s a good idea to check for:

• Cracked or worn sealant

• Loose trim or flashing

• Debris buildup

• Signs of water intrusion

Catching small issues early can prevent water damage and extend the life of the roof.

2. Check Gutters and Drainage

If your park model has gutters, make sure they’re clear and functioning properly.

Leaves and debris can block water flow and cause rain to pool around the structure. Proper drainage helps direct water away from the unit and reduces the risk of leaks or foundation issues.

3. Secure Outdoor Furniture and Accessories

Spring storms can bring strong gusts of wind that easily move lightweight outdoor items.

Before storms arrive, consider securing or storing items such as:

• Patio furniture

• Grills

• Umbrellas

• Decorative items

• Outdoor rugs

Keeping these items anchored or stored helps prevent damage to both the furniture and the park model itself.

4. Trim Nearby Tree Branches

Overhanging branches can become a problem during high winds.

If there are trees near your park model, inspect them for:

• Dead or weak branches

• Limbs hanging over the roof

• Branches that could strike windows or siding

Removing potential hazards ahead of time can prevent serious storm damage.

5. Check Doors, Windows, and Skirting

Make sure doors and windows seal properly and close securely.

It’s also a good time to inspect the skirting around the base of the park model. Properly secured skirting helps protect plumbing and insulation while keeping wind and debris from getting underneath the unit.

6. Consider Surge Protection

Spring storms often bring lightning and electrical surges.

A surge protector can help protect appliances and electronic systems from sudden voltage spikes, which can occur during severe weather.

Preparing Now Prevents Problems Later

Storms are part of the spring season, but a little preparation goes a long way in protecting your park model and keeping your camping season stress-free.

Regular inspections and simple preventive steps help ensure your park model stays comfortable, safe, and ready for many seasons of enjoyment.
